Behavioural therapy centres on understanding why a behaviour is happening, through a functional behaviour assessment, before deciding how to address it. From there we build an individualised behaviour intervention plan that teaches a replacement skill.
This helps children showing aggression, frequent meltdowns, elopement, self-injury or persistent defiance, and it gives parents a clear plan for the hardest moments of the day.
How we approach behaviour
- We never build a behaviour plan without first completing a functional assessment.
- Every plan teaches a specific replacement behaviour, not just consequences for the one we're reducing.
- The same plan is shared with school and home wherever possible.
- We give parents concrete de-escalation guidance for moments a plan alone can't prevent.
Who behavioural therapy helps
- Children with frequent meltdowns or aggression
- Children who run off or wander (elopement)
- Children who hurt themselves
- Children with persistent defiance at home or school
How it works
- Functional assessment: We find what triggers the behaviour and what it gets the child.
- Behaviour plan: We write a plan that teaches a replacement skill and sets out how everyone responds.
- Training: Parents and, where possible, teachers learn to apply the plan consistently.
- Review: We track data and adjust the plan as the behaviour changes.
